What changed

~/Desktop had ~95 loose files. All were sorted into topic folders. Zero loose files remain (only .DS_Store, .localized, and a stray Windows desktop.ini).

Classification used image dimensions (sips) plus visual inspection of every ambiguous file — 15 candidates were thumbnailed and viewed rather than guessed from filename.

Collision handling

Moves were non-destructive (mv -n, byte-compare before any overwrite decision):

exec-3f8cf7a3-...-dc8b1bd49492 2.png — byte-identical to existing copy in app_icons/ → duplicate removed.
logTTY_large.png — byte-identical to app_icons/logtty_large.png (case-insensitive APFS) → duplicate removed.
knitted_laptop_kangaroo_icon (1) 2.png — same name, different content → kept as ... dup 2.png.

Gotcha worth remembering

macOS screenshot filenames use U+202F NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE before AM/PM, not a plain space. Literal "Screenshot ... 1.04.29 PM.png" strings in a script silently miss every one (17/17 here). Match them with a glob (Screenshot*.png), never a typed-out literal.

Note on the Apple Notes copy

Two desktop-organize notes exist in llmlog:

... - claude - desktop-organize - general - 20260825-2106 — current, filed by this session.
... - claude - unspecified - general - 20260825-2011 — an earlier filing of the same file, pre-relay, stale subset. Task field differs, so notes_changelog.zsh replace-by-title did not collapse it. Left in place — Notes deletion is Rich's call, not an agent's.
