rdmsm4x — rdWORKBENCH consolidation, rename, and project initialization

When: 2026-08-24, started 00:03 EDT, closed 00:45 EDT · Host: rdmsm4x · Claude Code (Opus 5) Summary: Consolidated ten scattered locations of the rdWORKBENCH app into one canonical tree, renamed the product to rdWORKBENCH everywhere except its identifiers, initialized the project's status documents, and restored it to the dev.dataroo.net portfolio — where it had silently disappeared. Discovered in the process that the app has not compiled since before 2026-08-23.

Scope

Single host (rdmsm4x) for all source work, plus one deletion on rdmbair15m5.

Files touched

In ~/dev/apps/rdWORKBENCH (committed as 82a2eb9, 79 files, +1956/-924):

• Added STATUS.md, ISSUES.md, CLAUDE.md, SESSION-STATE.md; reconciled PRD.md.
• Added docs/consolidation/2026-08-24/ — MANIFEST.md, dev-dataroo-net-recovered-ledger.md, rd_personas/ (recovered entitlements + xcodeproj variants + original .gitignore), portfolio-packet/ (the fleet consolidation packet).
• Added outputs/evidence/2026-08-02/ (5 images + evidence.md) and Resources/AppIconSource/app-icon-macos-ios.png.
• Renamed 29 tracked paths to rdWORKBENCH case; edited project.yml, 21 Swift files, 8 docs, 3 scripts, 2 asset catalogs.

Shared fleet files (backups in the session scratchpad):

• ~/dev/PROJECTS.md — inserted one rdWORKBENCH row; bumped Last Updated to 2026-08-24 00:42 EDT.
• ~/dev/data/products.json — appended the rdworkbench entry (15 → 16 products).
• ~/dataroo.net/wiki/ — regenerated via gen_site.py; new p/rdworkbench.html, rewritten index.html.

Other hosts:

• rdmbair15m5:~/dev/apps/RDWorkbench — deleted (101 MB, 565 files), RETIRED.md left in its place.
• ~/Documents/rd_personas — RETIRED.md written; not deleted (iCloud-synced to five Macs).

Commands run (verification evidence)

• rsync -rin --checksum rdmbair15m5 → local: one differing file (.gitignore). Nothing unique to merge.
• diff -rq local vs ~/Documents/rd_personas: canonical is a strict superset but for three files.
• xcodegen generate → success; schemes now rdWORKBENCH-{macOS,iOS}.
• xcodebuild -scheme rdWORKBENCH-macOS → exit 65, 34 distinct errors across 8 files.
• Same build at c6bb398 in a detached worktree → exit 65, error set byte-identical (comm -13 empty). Proves the rename introduced zero defects and the breakage pre-existed.
• git log --all -S for WorkbenchReplyRecord / ManagedConfigurationRecord: found only in the files that consume them. The model layer was never written, in any copy or commit.
• stat -f %i on RDWorkbench / rdWorkbench / rdWORKBENCH → all inode 278955269 (one directory; a peer session's duplicate-directory report was a case-insensitivity false positive).
• Generated product page verified self-contained: 0 external src/href references.

Findings worth keeping

1. The build is red and always was. Six symbols are referenced but never declared anywhere.
2. The app has no iCloud entitlement. project.yml builds against an entitlements file whose whole body is <dict/>, while PersistenceController hardcodes a CloudKit container. CloudKit cannot ever have synced. The correct entitlements were recovered from the iCloud snapshot and preserved, deliberately not swapped in.
3. rdWORKBENCH had vanished from dev.dataroo.net. Absent from products.json, PROJECTS.md, index.html, apps.html and appdata.js; its complete ledger entry survived only in wiki/archive/index-preconsolidation.html. Recovered verbatim into the repo, and the product is now back on the dashboard.
4. Recovered scope in no repo document: Quote Builder as half the product name, an LLM Usage module, and airport-terminal visual variants.
5. The personas/quote tangent is still in the source (SeedService, gemini-quotes.txt). Recorded as ISSUES #10, not acted on.

Decisions taken by Rich this session

• Rename covers docs, display name, Xcode project, schemes, targets, module and symbols — but not bundle IDs and not the CloudKit container (team-permanent).
• Delete the rdmbair15m5 copy; retire but keep ~/Documents/rd_personas.

• Source: git -C ~/dev/apps/rdWORKBENCH revert 82a2eb9, then xcodegen generate.
• PROJECTS.md / products.json: restore the .bak copies from /private/tmp/claude-501/-Users-richh-dev-apps-rdWORKBENCH/f0ef9e5c-dad7-4514-a5a2-bfcbc6d70e34/scratchpad/, then re-run ~/dev/scripts/gen_site.py.
• The deleted rdmbair15m5 tree: restore from ~/dev/_migration/portfolio-ingestion/rdmbair15m5/20260823T201500Z-code-focused/rdworkbench-sanitized/content.tar.gz, or from the pre-consolidation git bundle in ~/dev/_backups/apps-preconsolidation-20260823-2341/.

Outstanding owner actions

• Commit 82a2eb9 is not pushed to origin — pushing was not requested.
• Decide the CloudKit entitlement swap (ISSUES #2) and the iOS .mobile bundle suffix (#3).
• Decide whether the personas/quote tangent comes out (#10).
• Physical-iPhone tap-launch and any App Store Connect action remain owner-gated.

Apple Notes
