Summary: Installed Homebrew rsync 3.5.0 on the four fleet Macs still resolving Apple openrsync (protocol 29), bringing all six hosts to rsync 3.5.0 / protocol 32. Matters because openrsync rejects modern flags (--info=progress2 et al.) — the exact failure Rich hit on his Arista work laptop on 2026-08-25 — and because uniform versions remove a suspected cause of the open cross-host mode-preservation inconsistency.

Scope

• Executed from: rdmsm4x, 2026-08-25 00:17–00:18 EDT, over SSH (richh@<host>.ts.dataroo.net).
• Changed hosts: rdmbair13m5, rdmpw3265m, rdmpw3275m, jdmbair13m5.
• Already current (unchanged): rdmsm4x, rdmbair15m5 (both had brew rsync 3.5.0).

Verification evidence (00:18 EDT, fresh login shells)

Bottles poured: arm64_tahoe on the Apple Silicon pair, sonoma on the Intel pair (prefixes /opt/homebrew vs /usr/local as expected). Apple's /usr/bin/rsync (openrsync) is untouched and remains the fallback if brew's is removed.

Undo

brew uninstall rsync on any host — PATH then falls back to /usr/bin/rsync (openrsync).

Outstanding owner actions

• None required. Follow-on noted in ~/dev/ISSUES.md: retest the "rsync mode preservation inconsistent across hosts" open item now that versions are uniform.
• Apple Notes entry PENDING: Notes automation is failing fleet-wide (known open issue, notes_changelog.zsh timeout against the large store). This file is the durable record; add the Notes entry when automation returns.
